Taipei Tour Guide Interview

Here’s our latest interview with a tour guide or certified local as we seek to learn from some of the top experts from the places we love.

What’s your name and how old are you?


My name is Mila, 35 years old.

Do you have kids? If so, how old are they?



Where are you originally from and what city do you currently live?


And originally from Keelung and I’m living in here now.

How long have you been a tour guide?


I’ve been the tour guide for three years, also runs a walking tour organization called keelung for a walk in my home city.

Why did you want to become a tour guide?


That is the most fantastic job in the world.  🙂

Are you a licensed tour guide? What cities? If so, from which organization?


Yes, from Tourism Bureau.

How many tours have you provided?


More than 50?

Let’s get to the exciting stuff. Why should anyone visit the city?


You should visit Taipei if you love food,  this city won’t disappoint you, you should go visit this city if you like to discover the essence of Chinese culture, it  shows you the layers of ancient time and modern times.

Is the city safe? What areas are not safe?


As all other cities in Taiwan, you can drink alcohol , walk on the street at midnight without any worries. Some famous  market might have pocket Pickers, be careful with your wallet in the crowd.

What’s the weather like?


Winter time it rains sometimes, the spring autumn summer time doesn’t rain that much.Summertime is a big humid,   typhoons might annoy your trip.

What languages are spoken in the area? Is English spoken?


Mandarin, Taiwanese.  English speaking Young Generation are quite lot.

Is US Dollar widely accepted?


Nope, TWD are accepted.

What are the best areas or districts to stay in the city?


Vibrant urbanspace in West like Taipei Xiemending , or east around Taipei 101 area, if you like  vintage space mix new and old, I personally like MRT Chongshan area.

What’re your top 3 hotels and why?


W hotel  is a trendy Hotel that located in the Heart of the City, Okura hotel  have outstanding service level, many Japanese visitors choose this one, home hotel daan is a hipster one  that I personally like more.

How does one get around the city? Taxi, Uber, similar apps, ATVs?


The public transportation System in taipei is good, the MRT are super clean and quick,  out of MRT Station there are youbike which can be rented by easy card as well, so if you are traveling alone probably you could try the Public system, but actually the taxi fare is quite good,  Uber works as well.

Can you highlight the MUST see sight? Minimum of 5, feel free to share as many as you would like.

Baoan temple + Confucious temple

Ningxia night market

What‘s the one thing you MUST eat in the city?


Bubble tea please.

Any rooftop bars or restaurants that you recommend?


Woo bar.

What about food markets?


Ningxia market, also a local one that’s very interesting to see everything mix together.

Do you recommend any tours outside the city? Islands? Boat Tours?
