Born in Cuernavaca Mexico , lived in Montreal Canada , now in Playa del Carmen Mexico
How long have you been a tour guide?
Why did you want to become a tour guide?
I enjoy talking with people from all over the world.
Are you a licensed tour guide? What cities? If so, from which organization?
Yes , licensed in archaeology , nature and parks. Federal guide ( all cities and attractions ) , Independent guide in the Secretary of tourism Mexico.
How many tours have you provided?
I’ve worked around 250 tours per year for 12 years = Lots !!!
Let’s get to the exciting stuff. Why should anyone visit the city?
Anywhere you go… Is a must ! You got to know the locals , their food , nightlife , commerce and lifestyle to have the full experience wherever you go.
Is the city safe? What areas are not safe?
Is the safest area in Mexico, we can take a walk in downtown without fear of being robbed. Although we are having local gangs fighting among them, they don’t attack tourists or locals , but we hear more often the news about killings.
What’s the weather like?
We have the perfect place for vacations, is hot and humid , which makes you jump into the pools or ocean and drink lots of margaritas without guilt.
What languages are spoken in the area? Is English spoken?
We speak spanish but everyone here speak broken english , You can communicate with almost everybody.
Is US Dollar widely accepted?
Yes , actually… more than mexican pesos.
What are the best areas or districts to stay in the city?
Close to the beach , the 5th avenue is the touristic area and is one block away from the sea.
What’re your top 3 hotels and why?
According to budget. 1) economy- cheap hotels next to 5th avenue ( koox , red queen ) , all inclusive- in playacar there are 14 hotels all inclusive , where you get all food and drinks and have the chance to see local fauna like coati, tsereque, deer , monkey , etc ( sandos caracol, ibero quetzal ), better hotels ( grand hyatt , panama jack )
How does one get around the city? Taxi, Uber, similar apps, ATVs?
Taxi is better, we don’t have Uber or any other app. Rental car not recommended (we drive like crazy here and police stops only tourists )
Can you highlight the MUST see sight? Minimum of 5, feel free to share as many as you would like.
A bit of different things-
1_ City of Playa ( A walk in the 5th avenue for shopping , coffee , restaurant , bar or disco… Everything is there )
2_ Mayan ruins ( Tulum and coba )
3_ Swim in a cenote nearby ( azul or cristalino )
4_ Snorkel at the reef ( cozumel or tulum )
5_ Visit a theme park ( rio secreto, xcaret )
What’s the best place to take a photo?
What about the top 3 restaurants?

- Atarraya ( seafood ),
- La Piola ( italian ).
- La casa del agua ( International ) ,
- Mandarinas ( Dinner ) ,
- Bovinos ( Brazilian )
What‘s the one thing you MUST eat in the city?
Alambre or tacos in ” El fogón ”
What about food markets?
No , there aren’t.
Where should one go at night? Any bar/nightlife areas or districts you recommend?
“Mandala” and “Palazzo”
Any rooftop bars or restaurants that you recommend?
‘The catch” is great ( but pricy ).
Can you recommend the best shopping areas? Best shopping mall?
Souvenirs in the 5th avenue ( I love playa ) , plaza corazón or Quinta alegría.
Do you recommend any tours outside the city? Islands? Boat Tours?

Are Casinos allowed? Blackjack tables? If so, what’s the best Casino in town?
No real casinos , but electronic casinos ( winpot )
Any last advice for people visiting the city?
Enjoy this city ! Is a great place for vacations , just do some research before coming and hire profesional people. Once you visit this place… You’ll keep coming back !
